The students are tested at three levels:-

Easy level - Simple questions are direct and the student can get the answer by understanding the text. This is at the achievement level.

Intermediate level - Students might find a bit more difficulty in answering questions of the intermediate level. At this level, students are required to infer the answer. It is not direct. Some deeper understanding of the text is required and thinking is required.

Difficult level - Certain questions test the students total command of the language and the ability to read, understand and give an answer that required some level of critical thinking.

Grammar is tested in the Rational Cloze section which is tested in Paper 2, questions 9 -15 of the SPM English paper. Students are given a short passage and any part of grammar can be tested.

The most popular areas are: Tenses, prepositions, countable and uncountable nouns, modals, articles, sentence connectors, comparison of adjectives and adverbs and vocabulary.

Some comm on errors to watch out for:-

* wrong usage of tenses
* incorrect use of countable and uncountable nouns
* punctuation
* spelling
* agreement
