Dear Yakashiro,
Thank
you for your lovely postcard. I enjoyed reading about your uncle who was a
great Japanese captain. I would love to see his uniform if I ever visit
you.
In
your postcard you wanted to know more about my background. I guess by
sending you my family photographs and my biodata will
do so. Yakashiro, for your information, my grandparents have
ten children. Five of them are sons. My father is the third in the family.
As you know there are also ten members in my family and I am the youngest.
Because my parents have been away in Australia since last year, I stay
with my uncle who is my father’s youngest brother. He has no children
yet. My aunt who stays nearby always visits me and takes me out during the
weekend with my cousins. I have more than thirty cousins.
Eleven
of my cousins are married and have several children. These nephews and
nieces of mine look Chinese because my grandfather is Chinese. He
converted to Islam when he married my grandmother. My grandmother is the
one with the walking stick. She is 87 years old and my grandfather is four
years older than she is but they both are still healthy.
That’s
all for now. In my next letter I shall tell you about my mother’s
family. Please send me a photograph of your family.
Bye
and best regards to you and your family.
Yours sincerely,
(Hamka bin Mohd Yusof)
